Seattle Vacation, November 2-8, 2004

I took my annual fall vacation in Seattle this year. I had orginally planned to go to San Francisco, and rent a car and drive up the coast of California, but I didn't quite feel like spending that much money, so Seattle it was (Alaska is amazing, but you have to get out at least ONCE a year, or you go nuts). As it turns out, I made the right choice. I didn't get any pictures of the BEST part of the trip, but maybe the next trip :-)

Below are some not-so-exciting pictures I took.

Being a big 'ol nerd, I just HAD to check out the Science Fiction Museum at the Seattle Center. I enjoyed it, but most nerds probably would.

The Seattle Art Museum. I didn't get a chance to go inside, unfortunately. This big fellow outside actually moved-the arm with the hammer went up and down. I was thinking it would be amusing if the hammer went right to the ground, so pedestrians had to dodge the giant hammer. (This is probably why I'm NOT an architect)

The obligatory picture of the Pike Place Market. I just love this place-the people, the items, even the smells; from the flowers to the fish.

The Seattle Public Library. I just had to take a picture (even though it's hard to determine the shape from this picture) as I get so bored with "square" buildings. They definately had some fun with this design!

An alley near the Market. This is one reason I love Seattle...fun little alleys with shops and places to eat. You wouldn't see anything like this in Anchorage, unfortunately.

OK, you may be saying, "Why did this loser take a picture of a parking lot?" Well, this USED TO BE where my favorite theater was! It was a great, old domed theater and I just loved the architecture. Well, they knocked it down (but left the sign, strangley) for a lovely, dirt parking lot. (Soon to be a lovely, square building, no doubt). Hmph.

Another reason to love Seattle: The Monorail! I've always appreciated the style of this remnant of the 60's World Fair.
Sadly, it apparently caught fire about 8 months ago, and they haven't fixed it yet! Not to worry, though. Apparently they've recently made plans to greatly expand the monorail a couple of miles to the north and the south. I can't wait to see it!

Another shot down 5th Avenue and the Monorail. I just love the trees along 5th, especially in the fall when the leaves are coming down.

I (of course) went up fhe Space Needle, and took this foggy picture of downtown Seattle. My hotel is in the lower left.

I couldn't resist taking this picture. I was in Seattle during election week, and this X-rated theater was having some fun. The left side of the sign is hard to read from this angle, but it says "Erection Week". hee hee (No, I didn't go IN the theater).
