My sister called me to tell me to go outside and take a look at the Northern Lights. Sure enough, they were probably the brightest I have ever seen them. It's quite unusal to see them this brightly, this early in the fall, but as I recall there was some serious sunspot activity then, and that's apparently what causes these things. Auroras are notoriously difficult to take photographs of, especially for a amateur photgrapher like me, so this is definately not the bext picture in the world, but it at least shows what they looked like that night (well, they were moving somewhat furiously, too).
