2004

A squirrel, making itself at home in a birdhouse in my parents backyard.
- Dec. 25, 2004 -

Rom, one of my parents cats, hiding behind some wrapping paper on Christmas morning.
- Dec. 25, 2004 -

Taking the annual (2nd for me, 7th for Marilyn and Angela) drive to North Pole to mail Christmas cards. This is looking north, nearing Cantwell and Denali National Park
- Dec. 11, 2004 -

On the road south, leaving North Pole and Fairbanks
- Dec. 12, 2004 -

Trip to Seattle!

Roadtrip to Denali Park!

Went for a drive to Seward with my mom-this is her in her natural stance: taking pictures! (where do you think I got it from?)
-Sept. 16, 2004-

This is the RV Alpha Helix in Seward (a research vessel owned by the University of Alaska, where I work).
-Sept. 16, 2004-

A sunset near Potter Marsh (about 1/2 mile south of my house in Anchorage)
-Sept. 13, 2004-

Another shot in the same place.
-Sept. 13, 2004-

I really want to get a digital SLR so I can finally get a nice w-i-d-e lens! (well, that's one of many reasons).
-Sept. 13, 2004-

Some clouds, taken from McHugh Creek, about 10 miles south of my house, along Turnagain Arm.
-Sept. 13, 2004-

Downtown Anchorage, my home town.
-Sept. 7, 2004-

Marilyn and I went on a walk up Albert Loop Trail near Eagle River. Darn nice day. This trail eventually goes all the way to Girdwood.
-Sept. 6, 2004-

Some moantains near the trail.
-Sept 6, 2004-

This is what the beginning part of that trail looks like. Quite a nice walk.
-Sept 6, 2004-

Sunset, taken from the Flattop Mountain parking lot.
-Sept. 4, 2004-

Another shot of said sunset.
-Sept. 4, 2004-

Termination dust! (For you non-Alaskans, "termination dust" is what we call the first snow of the season on the mountains) This was taken from Westchester Lagoon.
-Sept. 4, 2004-

A moose, munching away on the Coastal Trail.
-Sept. 4, 2004-

Trying to be artsy-fartsy again. A log on the Coastal Trail.
-August 22, 2004-

Coastal Trail, some birds against the sunset.
-August 14, 2004-

My brother and I went for a drive to Hatcher Pass, and this is looking down the valley on the other side of the mountains from Independance Mine. (Also some mines there, also abandoned).
-August 13, 2004-

My brother, jumping across some rocks on the Little Susitna River.
-August 13, 2004-

Some hay...balls? rolls? Well, whatever they're called, it's grass.
-August 13, 2004-

Marilyn and I took a little road trip to Seward. Unfortunately, the river coming out of Exit Glacier has moved, so we couldn't get too close to the face of it. Here's a picture from a couple of miles away (we DID get closer than this, I just liked this picture)
-August 7, 2004-

This is Seward, seen from across the bay. In the background you can see Mt. Marathon and the trail where the race is run every 4th of July. It makes me tired just to look at that!
-August 7, 2004-

Just the moon, and some trees, on the way to Seward.
-August 7, 2004-

Sleeping Lady, taken from the Coastal Trail
-August 5, 2004-

Marilyn and I took a bike ride over the old Seward highway, near Bird Point. A great view, even if the weather wasn't great that night!
-August 4, 2004-

OK, this doesn't really look like much in this pic, but we were fascinated by everything living in and on this waterfall. I took a couple of closer pics, but they didn't turn out all that hot. We couldn't believe all the different plants growing in the water. Next time you go by a small waterfall, take a closer look than you usually do. (Bird Point Trail)
-August 4, 2004-

Went for a walk tonight near my house and saw the biggest catepillar I've ever seen! Not nearly as cute as the one in "A Bug's Life"
-August 1, 2004-

Some clouds and a sunset (or is that one and the same?) from Potter Marsh, near my house.
-July 29, 2004-

I was trying to get a shot of the train with the sunset in the background, but it was moving a little faster than I thought, so this is all I got! Rats.
-July 29, 2004-

Walking on the Coastal Trail, I saw this bald eagle also enjoying the sunset.
-July 28, 2004-

Some clouds I thought were neat-o. Sorry for the spots on the picture...it was raining a little, and I'm too damn lazy to Photoshop them out right now.
-July 28, 2004-

A little 'ol bird (an American Dipper, according to my sister, Miss Smarty -Pants) at Hatcher Pass. It's mom came and fed it shortly after I took this pic.
-July 25, 2004-

Looking down the valley at Hatcher Pass.
-July 25, 2004-

Hope, AK. An annual run through the woods, that Marilyn and Angela do (and I tag along to take some pictures!) Oh yeah...the guy in the green shorts won.
-July 18, 2004-

Marilyn and I went for a hike up to one of my favorite spots-Byron Glacier (plenty of pics of this on here). A beautiful (and hot!) day. The creek diverted itself onto the trail, and the new trail was a bit rocky, but it's a short hike.
-July 11, 2004-

We then drove up the Crow Creek road. This is the waterfall at the end of the road (and the start of the trail!)
-July 11, 2004-

A baby moose in my backyard! You can't see it in this picture, but the mom is right next to it.
-July 8, 2004-

Went to my friend Jennifer's wedding! Isn't she beautiful? (walking up the aisle, with her dad).
-June 26, 2004-

Looking down the trail. 75 degrees and still there was snow! geesh.
-June 5, 2004-

A small lake near the summit at Powerline Pass.
-June 5, 2004-

Went for a hike up Powerline Pass. Didn't get all the way to the top, but it sure was a nice day.
-June 5, 2004-

A magpie on the Coastal Trail.
-June 4, 2004-

Four beaver dams in a row! Busy, busy beavers.
-June 05, 2004-

Adrian and I went for a drive up a valley near Hope (there's more pictures of this valley on here...I love this place).
-June 05, 2004-

I went back the next day with the big camera hoping to get some better pictures. I couldn't get anything better of the babies, but I got mom!
-June 03, 2004-

John's Park, near my house in Anchorage. A pair of owl babies! I only had my small (no zoom) camera with me, so this is kind of a crappy pic.
-June 02, 2004

Adrian and I drove up to Hatcher Pass. This is looking down the valley. Obviously still a bit of snow up that high.
-May 30, 2004-

Same day (no snow!) east of Butte. Quite a difference from Hatcher!
-May 30, 2004-

A lake (I forget the name) east of Butte. Beautiful day-I'll have to remember this place to go canoeing there some day.
-May 30, 2004-

Marilyn rented a PT Cruiser convertible and we roadtripped to Homer. Wheeee!
-May 22, 2004-

Fort Abercormbie (I didn't see Fort Fitch) in Kodiak.
-May 5, 2004-

An eagle, flying overhead near Homer.

-May 22, 2004-

Blowing sand on the beach at the Homer Spit.
-May 22, 2004-

I got to go to Kodiak (my first time!) to teach a couple of classes. Hopefully I'll be able to go back soon, as there's plenty to see on the island.
-May 5, 2004-

I've always liked looking at the variety of plants and animals you find in a tidal pool (Kodiak)
-May 5, 2004-

Boats in the harbor at Kodiak. I don't think fishing season had quite started yet.
-May 5, 2004-

A pair of grebes!
-May 3, 2004-

A grebe swimming in Westchester Lagoon.
-May 3, 2004-

Working at a university, I often get drafted for various events. This was the setup at the Sullivan Arena for commencement. It was so nice and peaceful before the students got there...sigh.
-May 2, 2004-

A red fox looking for lunch near Westchester Lagoon.
-May 1, 2004-

All these magpies were bugging the poor fox. hehe.
-May 1, 2004-

The moose must have been hungry this year! This is the first time I've ever seen one go through someones (mine!) garbage! Bad moose! bad!
-Apr. 4, 2004-

Drove to Portage with Marilyn...we didn't bring skis, like this guy, though!
-Mar. 21, 2004-

Another shot of some blowing snow in Whittier.
-Mar. 18, 2004-

Went to Whittier with my brother and his friend, Guy. Hard to believe that all this snow melts in the summer!
-Mar. 18, 2004-

Another moose, in my backyard! Damn things are everywhere.
-Mar. 8, 2004-

Big 'ol snowy moose.
-Jan. 3, 2004-
